breastmilk and hair bagged to be send

How to Send Your Breastmilk or DNA Inclusions

Once you’ve placed your order, you’ll receive a detailed email with step-by-step sending instructions and the Vancouver, BC mailing address. Please follow the guidelines below to safely send your breastmilk or other inclusions for your keepsake jewelry. Using the correct packaging ensures your materials arrive safely and in perfect condition—even when shipping internationally.

How to Package Breastmilk for Keepsake Jewelry

Use a sterile breastmilk storage bag (not a standard Ziploc) and remove as much air as possible. Place that bag into two more Ziploc or freezer bags, creating three layers in total. This triple-layer method contains any possible leaks and protects your breastmilk during shipping.

Clearly label every layer and the envelope with:

  • Your full name

  • Your order number

Why breastmilk bags?
Only breastmilk storage bags are sterile and leak-proof. This prevents mold during transit and keeps your milk in usable condition, even after long travel.

Will My Breastmilk Go Bad in the Mail?

Nope! As long as it’s in a sterile breastmilk storage bag, it won’t spoil or curdle—even if it’s not cold. The milk won’t be edible anymore, but it remains perfect for keepsake jewelry. I’ve successfully preserved milk that spent up to 8 weeks in transit from overseas.

How Much Should I Send?

Use this guide to measure how much to send for each inclusion:

  • Breastmilk: 5–15 ml (1 tsp–1 tbsp) — fresh or frozen, even 10+ years old
→ For larger keepsakes, please send 30 ml (1 oz)

  • Human or pet hair: A bundle 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) long

  • Soil or sand: ½–1 tsp (dry only)

  • Fabric: A 2-inch (5 cm) square

  • Cremation ashes: 1–3 tbsp per piece

  • Umbilical cord: 1–2 inches (2–3 cm), dried only

  • Preserved placenta: One encapsulated placenta capsule

  • Dried flowers: 3 or more petals

📩 If you're sending anything else, just message me at info@mamamilkfairy.com or reply to your order confirmation email.

Can I Send Previously Frozen Breastmilk?

Yes! Frozen milk is completely fine—even if it’s years old. Just make sure the breastmilk storage bag is sealed tightly, as it will thaw during shipping.

Can I Send Raw or Frozen Placenta?

No. Placenta must be professionally preserved and encapsulated before mailing. Please do not send raw or frozen placenta. I recommend working with a local placenta encapsulator and sending one pill.

How to Package Other Inclusions (Hair, Ashes, Fabric, Flowers, etc.)

Place your inclusion in a freezer-quality Ziploc bag, remove excess air, and double-bag if it’s delicate or messy (e.g., ashes, petals). Liquid inclusions (like ink or preserved milk) must go in a breastmilk storage bag, and then double or triple-bagged for safety.

Label every layer and the envelope with:

  • Your full name

  • Your order number

Should I Use Tracked Shipping?

Yes. I highly recommend using tracked mail or parcel shipping, especially for valuable or irreplaceable inclusions like breastmilk, ashes, or hair. This gives you peace of mind and ensures timely delivery.
